Little details for home improvements

This weekend i had a trip to Primark and found some ‘Home’ and ‘Relax’ signs. For £1 each i snapped them up. Not knowing for sure where they would be placed but i was sure it wouldn’t be too hard.

They are now sat on the sideboard in the living room. With a brand new bouquet of flowers from Tesco for £5. It looks so much better from just these little items being added. I have bought myself flowers every week but i have to say these are my favourite so far, lovely and bright but still can fit in with the teal colour of the living room.

Home improvements…lino

Being in army rental, it’s very hard to try and make the house a home. With everything having to be how it was when you marched into the house, it kind of puts you off wanting to do too much.

The house we are in now is dated, pipes all open and seen, especially in the living room (may have noticed them in previous pictures on here).

We done some DIY this week. Me and the hubby seem to be not so good at it. This is the first house we have done things in, front room one wall wallpapered, courtesy of the father, also courtesy of the father is Jessicas 1 wall painted pink. We had a workman round to put lino in the bathroom upstairs, as the flooring that was down was falling apart (literally!) army approved and we got accepted for the workman to come and sort it, yess!! He very kindly left us enough to do the downstairs toilet too. As he walked into the house he presumed it was the downstairs toilet he was doing, until i pointed him upstairs to the right place. He felt leaving me the spares would be good for downstairs as that wasn’t in such a good state either (laminate with 2 different floor tiles on show). So we made it a priority during the Christmas holidays.

Yesterday was THE day. The problem we had was the bits left didn’t fit width ways so we had to put 2 pieces together leaving a join line in the near middle of the floor. Hubby done one half of cutting round the toilet/pipes/corners and i done the other. We both stood and looked..hmm..’What do you think?’ we both asked. Hubbys reply ‘I don’t think it looks good’ I reply ‘Yes it does, lets stick it down and hope for the best. So before i changed my mind and hubby said no, we stuck it down. The toilet door shut for room (small space) and we nearly passed out from the scent of the spray the workman left us. Window got opened and door opened, while we got our breath back! Finally finished it all. Went to get the silicon to go round the edges and realised i bought clear, not good when the edges aren’t exactly perfectly cut. Today we got white and away i went, never doing it before, i have to say it isn’t too bad! The join can be seen but it isn’t too bad, better than what was there before 🙂 very proud of my (ok our) DIY efforts.

So what’s next on the home improvements?
Covering the kitchen table with PVC green dots material, yet to buy but won’t take long to do that one. After that, i have been given permission to paint the kitchen cupbaords! Will be using Annie Sloan paint and maybe then painting the kitchen table legs with it too, to match. This later part wont be done until February as with 2 kids birthday cakes to make in Jan no time for painting!
