I don’t want to be called a Princess!

Not the words you would expect to hear from a 4 year old girl. Well if you go along the stereotypical gender route, dolls/barbies/princess for girls. Football, cars for boys. May i add my son isn’t a fan of football either. Not your normal stereotypical kids.

Anyway Amy decided she didn’t want to be a princess nor be called pretty/beautiful. I learnt that lesson a few times. Toothbrush was a princess, she refused to brush her teeth with it, as she ‘hated’ princess. I buy her a new dress and i say the words ‘You look beautiful in that dress Amy, just like a princess.’ So that then brought up the no pretty/beautiful statements, which also brought up the fact she didn’t want a ‘princess’ dress and has now refused to wear the said dress, so i gave it to charity instead.

We had a bit of a dilemma a few weeks back. The no princess toothbrush was the throw back, she needed to brush her teeth so a new toothbrush was paramount. Off we go to my parents for the day and tell my mother she refuses to use the toothbrush as it’s princess. She then remembers that she found Thomas and Amys toothbrushes she was meant to give them at Christmas but forgot (naughty Santa!) so she can have that. We come to a dead end. As the toothbrush gets brought out, it’s, you guessed it. A princess toothbrush!! The mother said it’s ok i have a plan she will use it.
Confused i follow her downstairs to see her plan. She shows Amy and she replies ‘I don’t want it, it’s princess, i don’t like princesses.’ The mother then says ‘It’s ok Amy, it’s her ugly sister not the pretty princess, look.’ Amy looks at it closely inspecting it from top to bottom ‘So it’s not the princess then? Just the ugly sister?.’ By this point i had to walk out the room as i was about to burst into laughter, which i did, somewhere away from Amy.

Did she accept? Yes she did! For 2/3 weeks she has used the toothbrush because it is the ugly sister… Aren’t kids fabulous ey!
